Woody Head Campground

I finally blasted off from Maclean on Thursday, March 27 to start actually living 100% out of the van...My destination was the Woody Head campground in the Bundjalung National Park. I decided to drive out to Broom's Head to check out the coastal views prior to heading to Woody Head and spotted an emu on the drive out there but there wasn't anywhere to pull over to take a pic!

The weather forecast for the 3 days/nights I'm staying at Woody Head is for rain, wind, rain, and then some more rain...Not kidding! March 2025 on the north coast of NSW where I am is the wettest they've had in 140 years! It's weird though because it's not cold like it would be on Bainbridge Island and instead it's very humid...When it "cools down" to around 75 degrees F, I'm like, yay! while everyone else is putting on hoodies, etc. which just makes me sweat looking at them...Will take me some time to acclimate to tropical temperatures again...

As soon as I pulled into the campground, I got my first glimpse of kangaroos on this trip! They are everywhere and casually grazing on the grass or lounging under a tree napping...You can get very close to them and they just stare at you curiously but don't hop away...I was walking back to the van after a 2am bathroom run and a roo hopped right across the path in front of me and I almost bumped into him/her...There are also a lot of brush turkeys...

I've got great views of the ocean and am enjoying listening to the pounding surf on the shoreline and raindrops on the roof of the van as I fall asleep...

Everything in my soul feels happy being out in the bush!
