Woody Head & Back Beach Loop

3/28/2025

There was a break in the rain for a couple of hours Friday afternoon so I took the opportunity to get out and about and explore the area a bit...I decided to take the Wood Head & Back Beach Loop trail since it begins and ends at the campsite...There is another walk I will do Sunday morning as I'm leaving called the Iluka Rainforest walk and am waiting until it's not raining to do that one...

The hike began on the wide open beach before climbing around the headland and within two minutes of starting this hike, I ran into a group of kangaroos lounging right along the trail and they didn't seem bothered whatsoever by me walking by talking photos, etc. I won't ever get tired of spotting kangaroos, koalas, emus, etc. - such a thrill every time!

The hike continued out on the beach headland across rocky outcrops and eventually dumped me back onto a beautiful white sand beach where I met a guy fishing from shore who had caught a breem...After this I had to rely on the AllTrails app to figure out where to come off the beach and the 2nd half of the hike was jungly and not really on a designated trail...Finally found my way back to the campground and enjoyed listening to plenty of whipbirds along the way...Was pretty hot and sweaty by the time I got back so I enjoyed a 4 minute shower for $1 AUD, got into some clean PJs, made a toasted cheese and avocado sandwich with my cute little toaster oven, watched the end of a movie on my laptop, and then read a good book for about 90 minutes before an early bedtime of 9pm.
